ASD Strategies in Action

ASD Strategies in Action offers an innovative approach to online training in evidence-based strategies. Courses provide instruction through videos filmed with educators, service providers, experts, families, and people with ASD in the natural settings of school, home, work, and the community. An introductory course presents the common characteristics of autism and simple strategies. The courses that follow take participants to the next level of understanding with the opportunity to focus on strategies for Toddler and Preschool Age, School Age, or Transition Age individuals.

Autism Center Grab and Go Resource Gallery

Explore these interventions to support all learners, including those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Completed and blank templates are free and available to download. Each intervention has a how-to explanation and demonstrates how it may be used in the school, home, community, and work settings. It is important to keep in mind that interventions need to address the underlying needs of the individual. Therefore, select the interventions that address those specific needs.

Book Study Resources for Autism Focused Professional Learning Communities

Throughout Ohio educators, paraprofessionals, related service personnel and family members are enhancing their understanding of autism spectrum disorder and how to support individuals with ASD through the use of book studies. Professional Learning Communities and online learning have provided parents and professionals the platform to collaborate and learn from each other. Books can be borrowed from the OCALI lending library.

Challenging Behavior Expect Success In-Person Training Series

The Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) can provide professional development to help teams learn how to examine the situation and create a proactive plan. Learning the process will begin with functional behavior assessment that will include looking at factors and underlying issues that may trigger or reinforce the challenging behaviors. The presentation will include examining strengths and skills of the student and reviewing a tool that will help match evidence-based strategies to students with complex needs. Examples and case studies will be used to demonstrate the concepts and process.

Challenging Behavior Expect Success Online Webinar Series

Every person is unique and has different strengths, talents, and skills. When addressing challenging behaviors for people with complex needs, it is essential to individualize the process in order to develop effective intervention plans. This 14-part webinar series is based in positive behavior intervention supports (PBIS), functional behavior assessment (FBA), and behavior intervention planning. The series explores the belief system and a systematic process essential to understanding and addressing challenging behavior. It also includes team-based strategies that focus on matching evidence-based interventions to a target behavior, after in-depth exploration of the individual’s strengths and challenges. This series is ideal for anyone supporting school-age children, adolescents, and adults. Inclusive of the components of PBIS, this training can support educational teams working with students in need of Tier 3 support.
