According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (2006), the following data apply for head injuries:

  • Every 15 seconds, someone in the United States will suffer a traumatic brain injury
  • 1.1 million people are treated at emergency rooms each year for traumatic brain injuries
  • 80,000 will be permanently disabled
  • 235,000 will be hospitalized
  • 50,000 will die from their injuries
  • Between the ages of 0-14 years
  • 435,000 children will visit an emergency room
  • 37,000 will be hospitalized
  • 2,685 will die from their injuries
