What Causes SB?

The precise cause of SB remains unknown. Research shows that the B vitamin, folic acid, plays an important role in causing spina bifida and other neural tube defects.

We also know that women who have SB, have had a child with SB, or have had a pregnancy with another neural tube defect, are at greater risk for having a child with SB.
