About MIDD-CCOE

Our Mission

The mission of the Mental Illness Developmental Disabilities Coordinating Center of Excellence is to make life better for people with dual diagnoses of mental illness and a developmental disability. We help create access to expert assessments and recommendations. We train and educate people to provide services that address their needs in both areas. We support mental health and developmental disability systems to get to know each other, talk to each and improve how they work together. We help communities build their knowledge and resources for serving this population.

Our Philosophy

• Mental Health can work with people with DD. In most cases they already have the tools, and need only some specific modifications. DD can work with people with mental illness. In most cases they already have the tools, and need only some specific modifications.
• In both systems, the way to begin working with people with dual diagnoses is with the universal precaution of trauma-informed care: making sure each individual feels safe and in control.
• To address the gaps in what each system can do, we must collaborate with each other.
• The MIDD CCOE can help with all three of the above.

The MIDD CCOE is a joint project of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, Department of Developmental Disabilities, with funding from the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council.
